Summary

The Chief Donation Officer (CDO) oversees the We Are Sharing Hope SC (SHSC) Donation Systems. These Donation Systems are defined as donation approach & authorization, donor family after-care processes, hospital communications, collaboration & donation program development, collaborative partner development to include - Transplant Centers, Funeral Homes and Coroner partner development. The CDO will have oversight and responsibility for Family Support Services, After-Care Program, and Hospital Development, Donation Partner Services (Transplant Centers, Coroners and Funeral Homes). In this role, the CDO will have oversight and accountability for developing consistent, effective practices in these departments. The CDO will also be responsible for developing, enhancing and maintaining the messaging, branding, communication and partner service expectations of the staff in these roles. The CDO will be responsible for maintaining a consistent, professional and high-level interactions with these partners

The CDO will work with the CEO to design and develop organizational strategies and expectations related to the structure, function and outcome of all departments under this position.

The CDO will positively contribute to the organizational culture and this position serves as a member of the Executive Team, Leadership Team and Management Team.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Be an active and engaged member of the SHSC Executive Team and help drive organizational improvements, staff development and cultural efforts.
  • The CDO will be responsible for the strategic development of the Hospital Services, Family Support Services, Transplant Center Relationships and Donation Partner Development. These are duties are outlined below:

Hospital Services

  • The CDO will work with Department leaders to develop organizational strategies related to effective hospital donation programs. This includes directing the Director of Hospital Services (or designee) on developing and maintaining successful hospital donation programs.
  • Develop the organizational expectations on professional communications and interactions with each hospital and ensuring that policies, procedures and other professional memorandums are developed to protect the donation patient and process and maximize the donation gift.
  • Oversee the organizational strategic plans related to donation program development within the state and work with the Director of Hospital Services (or designee) to ensure that individual hospital strategic plans are developed and maintained.
  • Responsible for the developing and monitoring organizational metrics related to hospital donation programs throughout the state to ensure that we are honoring the donation gift to the highest level.
  • Oversee the Director of Hospital Services (or designee) to ensure he/she meet the responsibilities outlined in the Job Description and that the department has a collaborative and positive donation culture.

Family Support Services

  • The CDO will work with Department leaders to develop organizational strategies related to effective donation approach and authorization conversations. This includes working with the Director of Family Support Services (or designee) on developing and maintaining successful potential donor family care and communication protocols and ensuring that the department is having compassionate, effective and inspiring conversation about the donation gift.
  • Design, develop and implement the organizational expectations on donation approach practices and effective communications and interactions with hospital staff, pastoral and palliative care and potential donor families. The CDO will ensure that policies, procedures and other professional memorandums are developed to protect and support the donor patient and donation process, as well as the donors family, and maximize the donation gift.
  • Oversee the organizational plans related to effective family care, psycho-social evaluations of the family dynamics and conversation readiness and donation conversations within the state. Work with the Director of Family Services (or designee) to ensure that the hospital interactions and donation conversations are professional, compassionate, inspirational and informative. The CDO will ensure that family support staff are among the best communicators within the organization and consistently demonstrate emotional intelligence and situational awareness.
  • Responsible for developing and monitoring organizational metrics related to sensitive, compassionate and effective donation conversations throughout the state to ensure that we are honoring the donation gift and serving our community to the highest level.
  • Responsible for the organizational strategic plan for the SHSC After-Care program. This includes follow-up and correspondence, recipient and donor family communication and After-Care offering. Work with the Director of Family Services (or designee) to develop the policies and process for this Department. Develop metrics to track and trend processes in this area.
  • Oversee the Director of Family Services to ensure he/she meet the responsibilities outlined in the Job Description and that the department has a collaborative and positive donation culture.

Transplant Center Relationships

  • Design, develop and implement the organizational strategies for local and regional transplant center relationships. This includes visit expectations, issue resolution and contact relationship building.
  • Work with the Director of Organ Utilization to schedule and execute on visits related to organ utilization and acceptance practices. This should include a quality review of organ offers, transport and function.
  • Oversee the Department leaders to ensure that these relationships are robust, consistent and help maximize the donation gift.

Donation Partner Services

  • Design, develop and implement the organizational strategies for the development of positive and collaborative relationships for SHSCs Donation Partners - defined as Coroners and Funeral Homes. This includes visit expectations, issue resolution and contact relationship building.
  • Design and develop programs for correspondence, donation feedback and educational offerings to ensure that all Donation Partners have a functional and positive understanding of donation and their gifts.
  • Oversee real-time response and data collection for Coroner requests during an active organ, tissue and eye donor case.
  • Oversee the Department leaders to ensure that these relationships are robust, consistent and help maximize the donation gift.
  • Design and develop departmental metrics for consistent and effective Donation Partner engagement.

General

  • Recommend and oversee the departmental budgeting process for those departments under the CDO position.
  • Develop and implement systems to monitor the progress and present operational metrics both internally and externally.
  • Ensures all relevant and regulatory quality records are maintained to ensure organizational compliance to applicable standards.
  • Develops and maintains all applicable policies and procedures.
  • Maintains relationships with external agencies, vendors, institutions and other entities related to CDOs operational responsibilities.
  • Provides organizational responsiveness to changing conditions assuring long-term viability and growth of the organization.
  • Provides information and interacts with the Board of Directors, Advisory Board and other internal Committee(s) to maintain a high level of service and support.
  • Identifies, develops and implements strategic planning initiatives focusing on both short-term and long-term organizational objectives and goals.
  • Mentors and develops assigned staff toward accomplishment of mission, to include recruitment and selection, scheduling and job assignment, training and development, counseling and coaching, appraisal and recognition, and recommends salary, promotional, and disciplinary actions.
  • Engages members of the Leadership Team to facilitate cross-department collaboration ensuring all financial solutions positively support the organizations evolving strategic objectives.
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Bachelors degree in business or healthcare administration;
  • Masters degree ;
  • Five (5) years of experience in management;
  • Five (5) years in an OPO preferred;
  • Proven ability to lead a team, coordinate internal and external resources, and achieve measurable results against goals;
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, team-building and managerial skills;
  • Strong analytical skills, strategic thinking, problem analysis, and decision-making skills;
  • Effective communication at all levels in the organization, with strong verbal and written skills; or,
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience
