Chamber of Commerce Executive Director
Job description
The Executive Director for the Glenwood Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce is expected to serve the Glenwood community through positive community leadership. This person is responsible for maintaining and fostering community and business relationships, driving membership sales and retention, and acting as a partner with community organizations and businesses. A dedicated, knowledgeable, and driven team of Board members will assist the Executive Director in this important work.
The Executive Director is an EXEMPT position and will work 8:00am to 4:30pm, Monday through Friday. Occasional evening or weekend hours may be needed.
Benefits include: 10 days of PTO, up to 3% retirement match, and 6 paid holidays + 2 floating holidays + 4 hours of holiday pay on Christmas Eve and New Years Eve.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Provide Member Services:
- Recruits and sells the benefits of chamber membership to prospective members and the general public;
- Monitors member retention, ensuring achievement of goals as established by the Board of Directors;
- Retain members and grow the membership base;
- Create and deliver networking and training opportunities for members;
- Manage correspondence with members;
- Maintain membership and prospect files,
- Act as a liaison between members, potential members, and the Board of Directors.
Community Leadership:
- Be readily available and visible by the community at-large;
- Represent the Chamber of Commerce at meetings of other organizations; appear before City Councils and other governmental bodies; make public addresses as requested and secure other speakers concerning community and Chamber activities;
- Leads marketing and public relation efforts to promote Glenwood.
Administrative:
- Oversee the efficient and effective day-to-day operations of the Chamber of Commerce and Chamber office;
- Identify, assess, and inform the Board of Directors of internal and external issues affecting the Chamber of Commerce;
- In partnership with the Board President, act as an official spokesperson for the Chamber of Commerce;
- Facilitate Chamber, committee and public meetings as needed by preparing meeting notices, agendas, and needed reports, and gathering data and materials for use by the Board, and ensure that minutes are taken at all meetings;
- Work with the Board of Directors to prepare a comprehensive budget, and administer the funds according to the approved budget, and monitor the cash flow of the organization;
- Oversee the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the organization’s programs and services, and ensure the programs and services offered by the Chamber of Commerce contribute to the overall mission of the organization.
Support the Board of Directors:
- Provides budget updates monthly to Board of Directors to monitor progress;
- Coordinates elections of board members;
- Provides support and meets annually with the Board to fill upcoming board vacancies as specified by Chamber Bylaws;
- Orientates new board members;
- Keeps the Board of Directors informed about the Chamber’s operational activities, community connecting, legislative activities, and progress made on strategic plan;
- Ensures proper procedures are upheld, as established in the bylaws.
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
- Performs other related duties or special projects as assigned.
- Job may include lifting of up to 30 pounds or exerting up to 30 pounds of force occasionally to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Job involves frequent sitting or standing at a desk.
NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Knowledge of general business and administration functions.
- Computer literate, able to use software such as Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc).
- Comfortable with modern technology including computer use, smart devices, and social media.
- Independently identify and resolve problems and/or make recommendations to the Board of Directors about resolution options. Make sound decisions that reflect the best interest of the organization and its members.
- Strong organizational skills, including ability to plan, organize and set long-term strategy with work plan to accomplish it.
- Able to work collaboratively and positively with other of diverse backgrounds, opinions, and needs.
- Excellent professional communication skills, including written and oral communication skills, strong listening skills, and the ability to make presentations to groups.
- Ability to adapt organizational policy/practice to unusual situations and make related decisions.
- Ability to work some weekends and/or evening hours as required by the job.
- Present a positive image to members and the greater community through appropriate appearance and grooming, demeanor, and comments.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Experience in business administration and marketing preferred;
- Experience in non-profit or Chambers a plus;
- Demonstrated community leadership.

Pay: $45,000.00 - $50,000.00 per year
