The Ceramics Research Engineer of the Hypersonics Advanced Manufacturing Technology Center (HAMTC) with the Purdue Applied Research Institute (PARI) will conduct ceramic shaping and coating investigations supported by HAMTC. This individual will work on developing, maturing the technology readiness level, and overseeing shaping studies using digital light projection (DLP) additive manufacturing; applying coatings using plasma-spray processes; and operation of various furnaces. While training is available for each of these responsibilities, the desire is for the individual to take the lead in instruction and overseeing students and engineers related to ceramic processing. This individual will also work with the project principal investigators (PIs), internal/external technical team, project manager, and student/engineer teams to ensure delivery of tasks related to ceramic processing, particularly additive manufacturing, as part of external funding milestones. This individual can identify, create, and secure funding for additional projects in accordance with the strategic vision of HAMTC, as well as manage these projects.

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Materials Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field
  • 1 year of experience in industry or manufacturing development
  • Must be a US citizen
  • Position may be subject to a government security clearance, requiring security clearance investigation. Individual must meet the requirements for access to classified information
  • Technical skills that translate into successful track record in related projects
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task to meet deadlines
  • Ability to work under pressure and produce high quality work with attention to detail
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to communicate with individuals at all levels, both internal and external to the university

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $68,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
