Schedule: 40 hours, Evenings

POSITION SUMMARY:

This position is the liaison between the Central Processing Department (CPD) and the Operating Room (OR) regarding supplies, equipment, and set- up. The role assesses the needs of surgeons and the OR staff and acts a mediator between the OR ad CPD. The OR Liaison identifies resources needed to implement new programs/procedures pertaining to surgical instrument preparation, assembly, and maintenance. The liaison assures the flow of instruments to the OR are managed for timeliness and only complete trays are sent to the OR coordinators. The role provides oversight of daily activities between the OR and CPD to facilitate efficient case flow and promote excellent communication. The liaison collaborates with OR and CPD to ensure process improvement initiatives are in compliance with industry standards and BMC Policies & Procedures. This position organizes, directs, and implements daily activities regarding surgical instrumentation ordering, presentation, maintenance, and preparation. The OR Liaison assists in developing, communicating, implementing, and trouble-shooting instrument issues.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES:

Responsible for auditing all case instrumentation for completeness and accuracy. Manages Operating Room staff, Surgeons and CPD relations to provide customer service, communication and resolution of issues. Manages instrumentation turnover and prioritizes as needed. Coordinates with the leadership to verify that all instrumentation for the next day are sterilized and available and assists in the planning and coordination. Partners with the CPD leadership to conduct satisfaction surveys of customers. Manages case carts to confirm picked properly and OR room is set up in accordance with needs. Interacts with Surgeon and other O.R. staff to promote customer service and to communicate and provide follow up on issues. Initial training will require CPD Technician competency and assessment and then annually. Must be competent in all CPD processes, guidelines and BMC policies and procedures. Manages inventory replacement procedures for the missing instrument cart, assisting in decision making to process incomplete trays or not. Communicates Surgeon Preference Card issues to the O.R. Service Line Coordinators (SLC) for correction and evaluations areas for improvement. Directs workload of CPD Technicians as needed. Communicates with CPD staff prior to cases to ascertain specific instrument and supply needs and ensures these items are available. Must be able to troubleshoot, resolve issues or offer alternative solutions when necessary. Responds appropriately to problem calls from Surgery to address needs or issues. Always communicates in a professional manner to all hospital staff, visitors and patients. Transports sterilized instruments to the O.R. area as needed. Reports broken instrumentation, failed process flows and equipment to CPD Leadership. Ensures quality of care and customer service to the O.R. by addressing and communicating to CPD leadership, any issues occurring in the O.R., such as inefficient CPD processes or technicians errors. Demonstrates dependability and accountability to both the O.R. and CPD Adheres to departmental policies and procedures, including dress code and time & attendance Willingly accepts assignments and performs effectively on a daily basis. Shares knowledge with co-workers through open communication and continuous upgrading of skills. Follows chain of command within the hospital regarding problems or issues to ensure proper communication and resolution. Meets with Operating Room staff and Surgeons to provide customer service, communication and resolution of issues. Other duties as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION:

High School diploma (GED) required. Associates degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school preferred.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED:

CRCST required within one year of hire; CST Certified Surgical Technologist preferred

EXPERIENCE:

Minimum of 3 years' experience working in the OR. or 5 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written forms.

Strong computer skills required with knowledge of an Instrument Tracking System.

Demonstrated ability to multitask, follow up, follow through and must be organized.

Good depth of understanding related to, production process and controls.

Exhibit leadership skills with a strong work ethic. Detailed oriented with proven organizational skills.

Strong interpersonal skills capable of communication and coordination with multiple departments to build and maintain relationships; execute customer service, leadership, adaptability, and problem solving.

Demonstrated customer focused, highly skilled with instrumentation and clinical expertise.
