East Stroudsburg University is hiring a CAPS Services Coordinator (9 Month Position)! Located in the beautiful Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania, ESU’s proximity to New York City and Philadelphia provides convenient access to internships, careers and social activities. As the CAPS Services Coordinator, you will need to think creatively and be comfortable working with a diverse student population. You will be an active member of the Counseling and Psychological Services team and will work closely with the Director to develop action plans and facilitate referrals to on-and off-campus resources. You will thrive in this role if you like combining your experience conducting intake interviews and experience working with substance use issues while focusing on promoting holistic student wellness by providing early support and follow-up for complex situations involving students of concern. To be successful in this role, you must have excellent communication skills, be able to work independently and maintain confidentiality and have experience in the mental health field.
This is a 9 month position and your normal hours will be Monday through Friday 8:00 am – 4:30 pm, but you may have to flex your schedule from time to time based on the needs of the business to be a true CAPS Serivces Coordinator. What Will I Do At ESU? (AKA Essential Duties)
- Conduct intake interviews & level of care assessments and follow-up assessments. Complete required paperwork according to organizational timeliness.As directed by a supervisor, arrange for appropriate care and services to meet client needs.
- Provide individualized recommendations based on assessment procedures outlined by East Stroudsburg University’s (ESU) Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS).
- Assist in the coordination of Drug and Alcohol groups of a psycho-educational nature as part of treatment services.
- Provide individual assistance to persons in accessing community-based supportive, restorative, or recovery services. Maintain contact with individuals who are hospitalized and participate in facilitating discharge planning.
- Develop and maintain a database of referral resources for social service agencies, psychiatrists, and counselors within the local community; facilitate relationships with off-campus agencies and resources to connect students to long-term support.
- Coordinate and outreach of support services, including referral and liaison with housing agencies, social services, mental health services, financial support agencies, food services, and other basic needs resources for students.
- Assist with treatment planning and assessment meetings, participate in orientation activities as assigned, and engage in active case management and cultivate psychoeducational materials.
- Maintain clinical records and necessary statistics of psychotherapeutic and other client contacts, in compliance with ethics, law, and best practices. Adhere to the ethical and legal standards of professional practice and behavior relevant to the field of training and licensure.
- Cultivate and maintain cooperative relationships with colleagues and the campus community.
- Attend and participate in regular CAPS staff meetings, case conferences, and in-service training.
- Perform related work as required.
What We're Looking For (AKA Qualifications)
- Bachelor’s degree in chemical dependency, sociology, social welfare, psychology, or a related field. The department will also accept a Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 18 completed credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, or other related social science with 1 year of direct service experience performing counseling or case management work in an alcohol or drug treatment setting.
- 1+ year of experience as a drug and alcohol case management specialist preferred.
- 2 years’ experience conducting intake interviews and level of care assessments.
- 2 years’ experience working with the college-age population.
- 2 years’ experience with substance use issues.
- Must be able to maintain confidentiality at all times.
- Demonstrable empathetic behavior toward students.
- Able to build rapport quickly and gain trust of students.
