The Billing Manager for ASU Health Services oversees the insurance team and ensures billing, payments and adjustments are done within insurance industry standards and insurance information is capture accurately in PnC. They also work with insurance companies to review, evaluate and appeal claims. Critical to the mission of ASU and ASU Health Services, this position ensures that billing is processed accurately and in a timely manner in accordance with department practices and insurance regulations.

Essential Duties

  • Provide accurate evaluation of Explanation of Benefits (EOB) in order to accurately apply payments and adjustments to a patient’s account
  • Post payer denials and transfer A/R balances to the appropriate party as per payer EOB and/or appeal denied claims; process and apply payments received through EFT, mail or in person.
  • Comprehend and review individual payer claims and appeals processes as well as internal claims follow-up and appeals processed.
  • Review and evaluate patients claim status, contact the insurance company, collect and provide medical information as required by the payer.
  • Provide audit denials and investigate reasons for denials, making appropriate corrections to reprocess and/or appeal the claim.
  • Select claims for billing secondary payers; post adjustments and/or discounts approved by clients and management; build and maintain positive relationships with all payer provider representatives.
  • Responsible for taking a leadership role in cultivating, creating and ensuring student participation in ASU Spirit, Pride and Tradition while instilling institutional affiliation and college pride.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a field appropriate to the area of assignment AND five (5) years of related administrative experience, which includes three (3) years of supervisory experience; OR, Nine (9) years of related administrative experience, which includes three (3) years of supervisory experience; OR, Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

Desired Qualifications

  • Evidence of an Associate’s Degree and/or Certificate in Medical Billing and Coding (or other related field) or at least two years of medical billing/payment posting experience for a family practice.
  • Experience with Point and Click, or equivalent Electronic Medical Records system.

Working Environment

  • Use computer equipment and multiple software programs, extended periods of viewing screen and using mouse and keyboard
  • Communicate effectively orally and in writing to perform essential duties
  • Answer phones and emails
  • Work in an office setting using standard office equipment (i.e., telephone, copier, fax machine, printer, scanner)
  • May sit or stand for extended periods of time
