INTRODUCTION
The purpose of this job description is to establish and describe the job requirements, basic functions, reporting relationships, duties and measurements of performance for the position of Base Crew Operator at Scott Construction, Inc.
BASIC FUNCTIONS
This position includes but is not limited to preparing roads, parking lots, driveways, etc. for paving, sealcoating, etc. This position includes but is not limited: truck driving, equipment operator and laborer.
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS
Daily contact may include various levels of management and non-management personnel, town officials and the general public.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
The Base Crew Operator reports to the Crew Foreman.
DUTIES
· Operate equipment such as, rollers, loaders, bobcats, grader, etc. safely and efficiently.
· Perform daily inspections and maintain safe operating conditions as directed, reporting maintenance needs to the foreman.
· Check and set grades by measuring stakes.
· Adjust manholes according to grade.
· Adjust water valves and repair as necessary.
· Rake, broom, shovel, clean and perform various other hand work on road surface.
· Apply knowledge of commercial driving and skills in maneuvering vehicle at varying speeds in difficult situations, such as heavy traffic, inclement weather or in tight areas.
· Inspect truck for defects and safe operating condition before, during and after trips and submit a written report on the condition of the truck at the end of each trip or tour of duty, reporting maintenance needs to the foreman. Perform daily maintenance, such as, greasing, checking oil, fueling etc.
· Load, secure, transport and unload Company owned property properly and safely. Assist with traffic control.
· Maintain inside and outside of vehicle or equipment clean and free of debris.
· Read and interpret road and township maps.
· Complete and submit neat, accurate reports and yellow cards as specified.
· Comply with all Company policies, rules, procedures, and applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
· Remain in contact by use of Company communications systems (two-way radio, etc.).
· Identify and communicate work related dangers and damages to the foreman.
NONESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
· Direct all questions and concerns from customers or the public to the foreman

HOURS AND AVAILABILITY
This is normally a full-time seasonal position and hours for this position are established as needed to complete the assigned workload. Additional hours, including Saturdays and overnight stays a distance from home, are often required to meet the seasonal needs of our business and to meet certain requirements of the Company. Employee must maintain scheduled attendance at work.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

REASONING ABILITY: Employee must be able to exercise sound judgement and apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Employee must be able to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and written, by phone, two-way radio, in person or through written correspondence; speak effectively with co-workers; and keep accurate, thorough, and timely records and reports.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Employee must be able to compute rate, ratio, and percent; and draw and interpret graphs.
EDUCATION: Employee must have obtained a High School diploma or general education degree (GED).
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Employee must possess a valid Wisconsin Commercial Driver License (CDL), including classes ABCD and endorsements HN. Satisfactory driving record.
Employee must comply with applicable DOT, OSHA, CDL and any other regulatory required certification or recertification requirements, including physical exams and drug/alcohol tests.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Employee must be able to work with minimal supervision, be flexible, cooperative and take initiative; work well under pressure, plan, be resourceful, and well organized; maintain an effective working relationship with co-workers and be polite and professional with the general public; maintain a professional approach towards work and a positive attitude and philosophy consistent with Company standards.

Pay: $24.00 - $26.50 per hour
