The Authorizations Specialist primary function is to monitor and track client authorizations and ensure payment for services by verifying benefits with insurance providers or other third-party payers. You will foster a culture that is Caring, Accountable, Collaborative, and Family Focused.
What we are looking for!
- Bachelor's degree preferred
- 3-5 years of clinical knowledge in a behavioral health or medical clinic setting
- Manage submissions of service authorizations and follow-up processing of approvals by all payers
- Develop positive working relationships with government and commercial payer clinical staff to promote an understanding of Prior Authorization requirements and processes
- Complete and thoroughly document all client accounts with the approved or denied Authorization as well as clearly communicate the information to clinicians
- Research, follow-up and resolve any open or pending Authorization Requests with third party payers in a timely manner
- Communicate with payers for status updates on all outstanding and pending Authorization Requests
- Track Authorization thresholds on all client accounts
- Work with clinician’s on re-authorization submissions prior to an authorization expiration date, in order to prevent any lapses in coverage and ensure billing is accurate, complete and timely
- Work with assigned internal staff to review explanations of benefits, paying special attention to errors and claim denials in order to resolve any outstanding issues and collect payment
- Assist in identifying, analyzing and escalating patterns of authorization denials and identifying corrective actions or training needs of clinical staff
- Provide clinical staff with support and troubleshooting to ensure that documentation supports clean authorization submission
- Provide benefits assistance to clinical staff regarding clients’ outstanding invoices and assisting clients in understanding fees
