Annual Salary: $115,000.00 - $122,000.00 based on education and experience.
BASIC PURPOSE:
Position is responsible for providing legal counsel and support to staff of ODVA and specifically to assist the duties and responsibilities that fall under the agency Administration/Attorney/General Counsel.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
  • Serves as agency legal counsel, conducting legal research, providing legal consultation; briefs and drafts; and legal advice;
  • Establishes, develops and maintains contact with Executive Director, Deputy Director, Commissioners, Administrators and professional staff in providing legal consultations. Negotiate settlements;
  • Assists with planning and drafting legislative or regulatory proposals.
  • Reviews legal documents, including but not limited to Contracts, Agreements, Powers of Attorney, Probate Pleadings and/or Guardianship Letters.
  • Assists in preparing, editing, coordinating and distributing news releases.
  • Coordinates agency’s collection of delinquent maintenance charges.
  • Represents agency in judicial and administrative legal proceedings, including but not limited to Merit Protection Commission, EEOC, etc.
  • Drafts legal instruments, communication, and manages or advises on legal transactions;
  • Manages the complaint and investigation processes.
  • Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Knowledge of English usage, laws, legal codes, court procedures, precedents, government regulations, executive orders, agency rules, including grammar and composition; of agency's objectives; critical thinking abilities; and of editing techniques and procedures. Ability is required to write and edit; to gather and organize pertinent data; to uphold and practice legal principles and codes of ethics; to deliver informational presentations; to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; and to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Education and Experience
Must have a bachelor’s degree and a Juris Doctorate from an ABA accredited law school. Interest in matters related to state or federal agencies, military and veterans issues, government contracts, estates, probates, and guardianships is preferred. Must be a member of the Oklahoma Bar OR be scheduled to sit for the next Oklahoma Bar Exam.
