Attleboro Community Academy Science Teacher Grades 9-12

Science Teacher: Science certification required

Position Purpose

Under the general supervision of the School Principal, to develop students' skills in science. The position will consist of teaching in an alternative high school setting for at-risk students.

Hours: 12pm-8pm Monday-Thursday; 9am-12pm - Friday

Essential Functions

• Develop and administer math education curriculum consistent with school district goals and objectives.
• Apply an integrated approach to the teaching of science.
• Promote a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction and student learning.
• Develop lesson plans and instructional materials that are engaging, relevant, and hands-on.
• Coordinates with other professional staff members, especially within grade level, and participates in faculty meetings and committees.
• Employ a range of assessment methods of student learning and progress, and modify instructional methods to fit individual student's needs, including students with special needs.
• Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Knowledge of alternative teaching methods and classroom management.
• Ability to de-escalate student to student conflict and student to teacher conflict.
• Knowledge of current teaching methods (including social emotional learning) and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles.

Certification/License

• 
  Massachusetts State Certification as a science Education Teacher 9 - 12
• Motor Vehicle Operator's License or ability to provide own transportation.
• SEI Endorsement preferred

Education:

Bachelors from an accredited college or university in education discipline applicable to teaching assignment: Masters Degree in related area preferred.

Experience:

Prior experience with at-risk students a plus.
