Athletic Trainer

Mack Truck

General Nature / Purpose of Work:

This position evaluates, advises, and treats employees at the Mack Truck facility in Macungie, PA, to assist recovery from injury, avoid injury and maintain peak physical fitness. Specific programs will target injury prevention, ergonomics, job site evaluations, work conditioning, work hardening, functional capacity evaluations, functional job descriptions, return to work programs, health promotion, general wellness and fitness, case management and counseling. This position reports directly to the onsite APP and the JH Clinical Coordinator. The position also works closely with the Supervising physician and Executive Director for the Division of Occupational and Environmental Medicine (DOEM).

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

· Provide on-site services 5 days, 40 hours per week at the Mack Truck facility

· Plan and implement comprehensive injury and illness prevention programs

· Develop written rehabilitation policies and procedures to be reviewed by client and JHU leadership

· Perform comprehensive ergonomic job analysis, including task analysis, risk factor identification and quantification, posture and body mechanics analysis

· Identify and implement ergonomic interventions as needed

· Participate in orthopedic injury assessments covering such areas as patient history, observation, palpation, range of motion, manual muscle strength, reflex testing

· Provide rehabilitation for occupational injuries using physical therapy, equipment and techniques

· Evaluate Mack Truck employees’ readiness to return to work and provide clearance as appropriate

· Apply protective or injury preventive devices such as tape, bandages, or braces as appropriate

· Assess and report progress of recovering employees to on-site clinical team

· Advise Mack Truck employees on proper body mechanics and use of equipment

· Routine inspections of plant to identify areas of potential concern for injury/illness

· Design, implement, oversee and track stretching programs for Mack Truck employees

· Perform administrative requirements such as completing necessary forms, reports, etc in a timely manner. Documentation may include patient files, monthly reports, budgets, expense reports and utilization statistics

· Create an environment of trust and caring which allows workers to take responsibility to reduce or eliminate actions or behaviors under their control that contribute to injury and illness

· Communicate regularly with onsite JHU APP and Mack Truck safety personnel regarding rehabilitation and injury prevention activities

· Attend Mack Truck meetings and serve on committees as requested

· Participate in the design and implementation of health promotion and wellness activities

Education and Experience:

1. Bachelor’s degree in health related area from accredited college

2. Licensed/Registered by the applicable State Agency

3. Required: Nationally Board certified athletic trainer

4. Desired: Two years’ experience in an occupational setting

Special Skills / Knowledge:

 Analytical ability necessary to evaluate and determine health status of patients with orthopedic injuries

 Interpersonal skills necessary to interview, teach and counsel patients and interact with clients / employers

 A customer focused attitude

Machines / Equipment:

 Specialty equipment including but not limited to:

o Physical therapy equipment

o AED

o Game Ready or similar device

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $50,000.00 - $58,000.00 per year
