Center X is a community of educators, in the Graduate School of Education and Information Studies at UCLA, working to transform public schooling to create a more just, equitable, and humane society. Major responsibilities include providing classroom support for teachers by creating professional learning opportunities and offering coaching in alignment with the goals and vision of the California Subject Matter Projects among K-university students, teachers, faculty, administrators, and staff. Designing, planning, administering and coaching in programs (e.g., institutes, follow-up sessions, workshop series, conferences, district wide programs) that focus on history-social studies.

Qualifications

Required/Preferred

1. Comfortable working in many different teaching environments and with teachers from varied backgrounds and experiences, organizational skills and flexibility

Required

2. Specialized training and/or experience in providing professional development and coaching, preferably having participated in institutes offered by California State Subject Matter Projects.

3. Working knowledge of management and organizational structures that facilitate the operation of a complex network of administrators, parents, teachers, students, and staff.

4. An understanding of the developmental stages of students.

5. Graduation from college with a major or minor in History or a related field; or an

equivalent combination of education and experience.

6. A minimum of five years of successful teaching, preferably in an urban context

7. Ability to summarize current research and reform issues regarding history-social studies, and related education issues AND to apply them to programs.

8. Advance degree in Education or History

9. Experience working with elementary and middle school students and/or teachers.

10. Knowledgeable of online learning environments

11. Skill in designing and writing of proposals, reports, and articles to secure funding.

12. Ability to promote positive public relations image.

13. Ability to develop, nurture, and sustain teacher leaders.

14. Ability to design, implement, evaluate and revise professional development programs.

15. Ability to communicate effectively to small and large groups of people, from students to colleagues, teachers, parents, and administrators.
