Kite is a biopharmaceutical company focused on the development and commercialization of novel cancer immunotherapy products designed to harness the impact of a patient’s own immune system to selectively target cancer cells. Our core technology involves the genetic engineering of T cells, or white blood cells, to express chimeric antigen receptors (CARs) for the treatment of advanced solid and hematological malignancies. We are on a rapid growth trajectory and have a highly energized and accomplished team.
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced individual to join us as Associate Director, Research Project Management in our Research Strategic Operations (RSO) Team. You will support one or more Research Teams through the advancement of our CAR T pipelines and next generation immunotherapy. This position requires familiarity with cancer immunology, adoptive cell therapy and the biological drug development process. This role will guide teams within Research through the Research Governance Processes, Experimental Plans, and Research strategic goals. In addition, the role will help to ensure that Research Teams make satisfactory progress and meet program milestones in a manner consistent with the highest standards of quality, reliability, reproducibility, and documentation. This is a hybrid role based in our Philadelphia Research Facility and may require occasional travel to conferences, scientific collaborators, and other Kite and Gilead sites, including Emeryville, CA, Santa Monica, CA, and Foster City, CA.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide Research Teams and Translational Sciences with project management guidance and insights into research strategy and processes to guide and organize the teams
- Support team members and empower them to complete deliverables efficiently and effectively
- Support the development of Research strategy and plan according to Research Governance, including project planning, scenario development and analysis, utilizing exceptional knowledge of cell therapy drug development and immunology
- Organize and guide research project teams, ensuring timely, efficient, and high-quality strategy and tactics
- Work in partnership with project lead and functional leads, to develop, identify risks and opportunities, implement corrective actions and implement on the project plan and program
- Support external collaboration projects and associated interactions (e.g. meetings, communications etc.) with the partners
- Manage research project communications and ensures that all stakeholders (internally and externally) are fully informed of project activities and their status
- Guide the research project team through stage gate reviews toward milestone completion
- Liaise with cross-functional and functional stakeholders (e.g. Product Team Lead, Program Manager, Alliance Manager, Business Dev, Clinical, Legal, and Regulatory representatives etc.) to implement on cross-functional deliverables and resolve issues
- Implement exceptional project management processes and templates such as project schedules, Gantt charts, action/decision logs, risk registers, SharePoint site, etc.
- Track non-clinical and clinical study report deliverables for IND and BLA filings
- Provide inputs on behalf of the Research Teams for the LE process
- Responsible for multiple projects and program areas, including some core services
- Compose agendas, minutes and action items for assigned working groups, study teams and Research projects
- Support continuous process improvements to remain agile and effective in RSO guidance, support, and customer service
Basic Qualifications:
- Doctorate and 2+ years of scientific experience OR
- Master’s and 8+ years of scientific experience OR
- Bachelor’s and 10+ years of scientific experience OR
- Associate and 12+ years of scientific experience OR
- High School Diploma/GED and 14+ years of scientific experience
Preferred Qualifications:
- PhD/MD in cellular immunology, immune-oncology, molecular biology, cell biology or related field
- Experience in a scientific field (Research, Translational Sciences/Medicine, R D project teams and/or in cross-functional project management activities) supporting drug, diagnostic or medical device programs in a regulated environment
- Extensive understanding of discovery research, translational sciences/medicine and pre-clinical development and overall commercial drug development process
- Extensive experience in applying principles, concepts, practices, and standards of pharmaceutical project management in Research and/or Translational Sciences/Medicine
- Prior experience in cellular therapy, synthetic biology, oncology research

The salary range for this position is: $168,980.00 - $218,680.00. Gilead considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package. Benefits include company-sponsored medical, dental, vision, and life insurance plans*.
