Office of Economic and Workforce Development
Southeast Missouri State University, a dynamic and competitive regional public comprehensive institution located in Cape Girardeau, Missouri invites applications and nominations for the position of Assistant Vice President, Economic and Workforce Development.
The Assistant Vice President reports to the University President and is responsible for leading the University’s economic and workforce development and related training initiatives. Some of the Assistant Vice President's responsibilities will include, but not limited to:
Align workforce and training programs with academic, industry and public sector needs.- Develop effective partnerships with business and industries throughout southeast Missouri and the University’s service region in the identification of training needs and leading to the development and delivery of revenue producing workforce education and training solutions.
- Provide management oversight of all noncredit curriculum planning, program development and implementation and program review.
- Collaborate with academic areas to develop non-credit to credit opportunities.
- Plan and coordinate events as required to promote the University’s continuing education, workforce education and training opportunities.
- Identify funding and grant opportunities and develop partnerships and proposals in response to solicitations from state, federal and other sources.
- Develop, implement and monitor annual budget, grants budgets and contract budgets as appropriate relating to the Office of Economic and Workforce Development.
- Represent the University as necessary and appropriate to businesses, professional associations, and community organizations on economic and workforce development issues.
- Supervise the Office of Career Services, Continuing Education, the Regional Professional Development Center (RPDC), the Small Business Development Center (SBDC), and the Southeast Missouri State University Law Enforcement Academy to ensure alignment to industry-sector standards and effective programming for student success.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree or above in a discipline relevant to the position (e.g. Business, Economics, Management, Public Management, Public Administration, Workforce Education and Development) or a related field. Preference will be given to applicants with a Master’s degree in a related field or additional credentialing such as a Certificate, Professional License, or other industry-verified credential germane to the position.
- Significant and progressive experience in economic development and/or workforce education and training.
- Senior-level experience in a broad variety of management areas, preferably in an organization dedicated to economic development and/or workforce education and training. Experience must include several of the responsible areas (career services, continuing education, small business development, professional development, workforce training, or law enforcement).
- Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the mission of a regional, comprehensive university.
- Demonstrated experience in working with business and industry, professional associations, elected officials, government agencies, or community organizations.
- Familiarity with identifying, applying, or creating partnerships to apply for grants and/or other funding sources.
- Proven record of success in planning, problem solving and ability to think proactively, creatively, and strategically.
- Demonstrated ability to supervise and develop staff and sustain good relationships with professional colleagues.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and strong attention to detail.
