About the Role:
As the Assistant Transportation Manager you will support the Director of Transportation on various tasks and projects relating to the operation of Grocery Outlet’s private fleet. You will review current process and procedures and suggest improvements to increase efficiency. You will contribute to the overall success of the distribution team by advancing the use of new technologies and functionalities as appropriate. Along with the Transportation Manager you will be responsible for communicating the company policies, procedures, safety requirements and various announcements to GOI drivers, to ensure drivers are current and compliant with GOI and DOT regulations. The Assistant Transportation Manager will report to the Transportation Manager.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Dispatching, scheduling, and tracking loads with various common carrier and Grocery Outlet’s fleet
  • Working as a liaison between IOs (Independent Owner Operators) and the warehouse operations teams
  • Providing updates on load availability, ETA’s, driver and/or equipment issues, etc.
  • Managing and scheduling the Cross Dock shuttle program for stores’ Flow/HABA orders shipping from warehouse 97 to warehouse 95
  • Providing weight, cube and delivery info to stores and warehouse personnel to assist in the delivering of cross dock orders
  • Assisting stores on various requests relating to store operations, changes in deliveries, delaying or expediting of specific orders, routing loads, assisting in the arranging of split partners, adding/removing items from orders, etc.
  • Assisting stores with the ordering and processing of orders to ensure that orders are received in time to make scheduled deliveries
  • Partner with IT on various ordering issues
  • Compiling and reporting performance data and maintaining equipment service records and driver profile records
  • Partner with various departments on operational projects
  • Miscellaneous administrative tasks and projects
  • Conduct periodic surveys of stores for feedback on transportation and warehouse service topics to help improve service from these departments
  • Work with Logistics Manager and TMS consultants to implement the TMS solution on the inbound and outbound side to automate load reporting
  • Managing store and vendor pallet processes
  • Utilize knowledge of store operations and GOI to suggest improvements for transportation that are: cost neutral, provide service enhancements, and provide cost reductions

Work Schedule:

  • Sunday - Wednesday AM shift

About The Pay:

  • Base Salary Range: $65,000 - $75,000 Annually

About You:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and work experience
  • Strong team player and individual contributor that thrives in a fast-paced environment
  • 5+ years’ experience in driver management and dispatch
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of operations
  • Knowledge of warehouse operations
  • Experience with multiple TMS desired
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • General computer skills - Microsoft Office, Outlook, WMS
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
  • Current, valid CDL a plus
