Assistant State’s Attorney - Child Support Division Chief

Salary Range - $70,000-$100,000/ year, commensurate with experience
JOB SUMMARY
4+ years of child-support experience and/or commensurate experience in civil litigation and/or family law. Exceptional communication, research, and writing skills are essential. Must be a licensed attorney within the State of Illinois at time of application, or provide evidence of eligibility for admission via reciprocity. Pending Motion for Admission by Reciprocity strongly preferred.
The State’s Attorney’s Office represents the Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services (HFS)/Division of Child Support Services (DCSS) under Title IV-D of the Social Security Act. The Madison County State’s Attorney’s Office is responsible for determining paternity as well as establishing, enforcing, and modifying child support and medical support orders. While the State’s Attorney’s Office may be involved in cases involving parental responsibility (custody) and parenting time (visitation) the Office has a limited scope in such cases and only handles matters relating to child support and those ancillary to child support.
The child support division chief acts as an attorney in the child support division with their own case load and docket. The division chief oversees daily procedures of the child support division. The chief is in charge of supervising and training personnel. The division chief must assist in maintaining docket schedules/calendars with the Madison County Circuit Clerk’s Office and Judges assigned to the Family docket. Additionally, they will maintain and review the compliance metrics under the HFS/DCSS contract. The chief acts as the first point of contact between the Child Support Division and: HFS/DCSS; the Court/Judges; the Circuit Clerk’s Office; the Private Bar; and the Public.
