Position: Assistant Principal/Preschool CoordinatorJob Goals: 1.Under the supervision and direction of the Principal, the Assistant Principal/Preschool Coordinator is responsible for supervision of the staff and programs, for implementation of procedures and practices related to student services and building security, and for the supervision and evaluation of staff. 2.The Assistant Principal/Preschool Coordinator is also an agent of the School Department and, as such, is expected to implement the policies of the School Committee and represent the district in a professional and ethical manner.3.The Assistant Principal/Preschool Coordinator is responsible for oversight of Preschool, ensuring the quality and integrity of all aspects of the program. Supervision: Reports to the Building PrincipalExperience and Training: 1.Five years successful teaching or related experience2.Minimum of masters degree in elementary education or administration3.Certification/eligibility for Massachusetts administrative certification4.Prior successful experience in a leadership position with supervisory responsibilities desirable5.Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent of Schools may find appropriate Performance Responsibilities: Instructional Leadership1.Ensures that all teachers design effective and rigorous standards-based units of instruction consisting of well-structured lessons with measurable outcomes 2.Ensures that instructional practices in all settings reflect high expectations regarding content and quality of effort and work, engage all students, and are differentiated to accommodate diverse learning styles, needs, interests, and levels of readiness3.Ensures that all teachers use a variety of formal and informal methods and assessments to measure student learning, growth, and understanding and make necessary adjustments to their practice when students are not learning4.Provides effective and timely supervision and evaluation in alignment with state regulations and contract provisions, including: a.Ensures that educators pursue meaningful, actionable, and measurable professional practice and student learning goals b.Makes frequent unannounced visits to classrooms and gives targeted and constructive feedback to teachers c.Exercises sound judgment in assigning ratings for performance and impact on student learning 5.Uses multiple sources of evidence related to student learning, including state, district, and school assessment results and growth data, to inform school and district goals and improve organizational performance, educator effectiveness, and student learning6.Oversees screening, eligibility, and entrance into Pre-K program including referrals from early interventions and caregivers.Management and Operations7.Develops and executes effective plans, procedures, routines, and operational systems to address a full range of safety, health, and emotional and social needs of students, including support of restoration practices protocols.8.Implements a cohesive approach to recruitment, hiring, induction, development, and career growth that promotes high-quality and effective practice9.Uses systems to ensure optimal use of time for teaching, learning, and collaboration10.Understands and complies with state and federal laws and mandates, school committee policies, collective bargaining agreements, and ethical guidelines11.Develops a budget that supports the districts vision, mission, and goals; allocates and manages expenditures consistent with district/school-level goals and available resources12.Review, update, and implement Massachusetts curriculum frameworks13.Develop and direct program assessment, program review process, and accreditation.14.Manage preschool screenings 3-4 times per year and delegate paperwork appropriately.15.Schedule and plan initial preschool evaluation meetings for students transitioning from early intervention.Family and Engagement16.Actively ensures that all families are welcome members of the classroom and school community and can contribute to the classroom, school, and communitys effectiveness17.Continuously collaborates with families to support student learning and development both at home and at school18.Engages in regular, two-way, culturally proficient communication with families about student learning and performance19.Addresses family concerns in an equitable, effective, and efficient manner20.Schedule visits for incoming families.Professional Culture21.Fosters a shared commitment to high standards of teaching and learning with high expectations for achievement for all, including: a.Mission and core values: Develops, promotes, and secures staff commitment to core values that guide the development of a succinct, results-oriented mission statement and ongoing decision making b.Meetings: Plans and leads well-run and engaging meetings that have clear purpose, focus on matters of consequence, and engage participants in a thoughtful and productive series of conversations and deliberations about important school matters22.Ensures that policies and practices enable staff members and students to interact effectively in a culturally diverse environment in which students backgrounds, identities, strengths, and challenges are respected23.Demonstrates strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills24.Develops and nurtures a culture in which staff members are reflective about their practice and use student data, current research, best practices and theory to continuously adapt instruction and achieve improved results. Models these behaviors in the administrators own practice25.Continuously engages all stakeholders in the creation of a shared educational vision in which every student is prepared to succeed in postsecondary education and become responsible citizens and community contributors26.Employs strategies for responding to disagreement and dissent, constructively resolving conflict and building consensus throughout a district/school communityEvaluation: Performance of the job will be evaluated on a yearly basis by the Superintendent of Schools or designee consistent with the requirements and expectations of Massachusetts Educator Evaluation regulations, 603 CMR 35.00, and locally developed procedures.Physical Requirements: The position requires a moderate amount of walking, standing, sitting and climbing stairs and step stool whenever necessary.Activities also include moderate physical exertion in body movement such as reaching, bending, twisting, grasping, pushing, and pulling of objects. The position requires lifting objects of 20 pounds on a frequent basis, and over 20 pounds occasionally. There is a frequent requirement of fine motor manipulation associated with the required use of a computer, typewriter, keyboard, calculator, and other business machines.Environmental Conditions: The employee is required to work indoors. The regular chemical solvents include toners and cleaning fluids.
