Sunflower CDC Assistant Director
The Sunflower CDC (SCDC) Assistant Director reports to the SCDC Director and is responsible for:

  • Supporting the SCDC Director in the oversight and management of the Center.
  • Scheduling, managing, and supporting the teaching staff with quality practice components of curriculum development, child and classroom environment assessments, teacher training, and professional development.
  • Assuming position responsibilities of Director when the Director is off-campus.
  • Guiding and supporting teaching staff in supporting the theme-based program that encourages students’ awareness, understanding, appreciation, and protection of the environment, and fosters empathy and kindness towards others and all living things.
  • Maintaining SCDC goals to build a strong learning foundation through hands-on sensory experiences, intentional and meaningful curriculum activities, and skill building in all areas of child development

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain and support quality safety, supervision, and program components of SCDC.
  • Assist with student enrollments, collecting lesson, registration and tuition fees, child files, and communication with families.
  • Assist with staff hiring and performance reviews
  • Assist with maintaining licensing regulations and procedures and filing appropriate reports with Santa Clara Heath Department and California Department of Social Services-Community Care Licensing Division as required.
  • Meet and greet families and children daily at arrival and departure times.
  • Ensure the supervision, safety, and well-being of children and classroom teaching staff daily including moving staff with children as they change locations throughout the day.
  • Supervise and support SCDC teaching staff in developing and implementing a rich and innovative theme-based curriculum, several weeks in advance to help ensure materials are available for lessons.
  • Support, guide, and train staff in utilizing various assessment tools of observation, documentation, writing, letters, data collection, work samples, photos, videos, and other methods to assess children’s developmental skills and progress both individually through portfolio collection and with classroom curriculum plans and evaluation.
  • Assist Director with preschool tours and information sessions.
  • Develop learning provocations with classroom teaching staff based on implementing a creative, emergent, theme-based curriculum that meets children’s individual interests and needs as well as the classroom community of learners.
  • Set professional goals each year and evaluate goals, professional growth, lead teaching responsibilities and performance with Director.
  • Maintain positive communication with all program participants, volunteers, and visitors.
  • Follow Environmental SCDC philosophy and policies. (Employee Handbook)
  • Organize and maintain administration environment, equipment, and supplies and notify Director of needed supplies.
  • Arrive when scheduled to prepare and set-up administrative duties and the facility for student arrivals.
  • Follow health and safety standards, and practices of required state regulatory agencies.
  • Responsible for notifying the Director of any safety hazards in all learning environments.
  • Accommodate schedule changes and cover staff when needed (this includes anything from teaching in classrooms to working the front office).
  • Participation and help to organize in SCDC special events (Field trips, Performances, Guest entertainment).
  • Learn and increases SCDC’s utilization of Procare for monthly Newsletter and other features not currently used.
  • Updating lobby materials including student and staff pictures, required local, state, and federal materials, i.e.: Title 22.
  • Update and maintain the SCDC calendar 12 months, in advance.
  • Update and maintain required staff training requirements, i.e.: CPR, other.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $49,953.00 - $53,741.00 per year

  • Santa Clara, CA 95050: Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (Preferred)

Experience:

  • Teaching: 1 year (Preferred)

License/Certification:

  • CPR Certification (Preferred)
