ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned with or without reasonable accommodations.
Interpret the facility's policies and procedures to employees, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies, etc. as necessary.
- Helps with the management and daily operations of the nursing department
- Ensures that each patient’s needs are assessed and that a treatment plan is developed for nursing care
- Provides nursing care following established nursing service objectives and standards
- Helps manage and oversee staff
- Manages supplies and ensures orderly work areas
- Ensures that required documentation is complete and is in compliance with regulations and standards
- Communicates with patients and families regarding treatment and care
- Attends all staff meetings, trainings, and educational classes as required
- Any other duties as assigned by the DON or Administrator.
- Oversees the facility’s antibiotic stewardship program.
- Oversees resident care activities that increase risk of infection (i.e., use and care of urinary catheters, wound care, incontinence care, skin care, point-of-care blood testing, and medication injections).
- Leads the facility’s Infection and Prevention Control Committee. Develops action plans to address opportunities for improvement. Participates on the facility’s QAA Committee. Performs duties as assigned.
- Implements an annual infection control risk assessment process and participates in the facility’s annual facility assessment review process.
- Provides education related to infection prevention and control principles, policies, and procedures to staff, residents, and families (where appropriate)
PHYSICAL, COGNITIVE, AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:
- Walking, reaching, bending, grasping, pushing, pulling
- Ability to remain calm under stress.
- Must function independently, have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with residents, personnel and support agencies.
- Ability to demonstrate patience, tact, courtesy, enthusiasm, and a positive attitude.
- Must be able to relate to and work with the ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and at times hostile residents within the facility.
- Ability to read and write in English.
- Must be able to lift and transfer a minimum of 25 pounds.
EDUCATION/EXPERIECE
- Must be a Licensed Nurse
- Must have a minimum of one year experience in a supervisory capacity in a hospital, a skilled Nursing Facility or other related healthcare program. Must possess a working knowledge of Long Term care operational standards as set forth in Federal Register, Conditions of Participation and State regulations.
- Education, training, experience, or certification in infection control and prevention.
- Completed specialized training in infection prevention and control through accredited continuing education.

The Assistant Director of Nursing helps the Director of Nursing with the day-to-day functions of the Nursing Department in accordance with established policies, procedures, and practices that comply with federal, state, and local regulations. He or she demonstrates knowledge of the patients' physical, social, emotional, and psychological needs based on the health care required. In addition, the Assistant Director of Nursing helps ensure adequate staffing patterns and that staff are qualified and trained.
The Infection Preventionist is responsible for identifying, investigating, monitoring and reporting healthcare associated infections. The IP collaborates with teams and individuals to create infection prevention strategies, ongoing surveillance, provides feedback, and sustains infection prevention strategies in accordance with CDC guidelines and facility policies. Ensures compliance to regulatory standards that relate to skilled nursing infection control practices. Maintain Rights of Residents as set forth by the Texas Department of Health Laws and Regulations.
