JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Penn State , one of the top public universities in the country with almost 75,000 undergraduates and more than 750,000 alumni across the world, is seeking an Assistant Director of Communications to support the marketing and communications efforts of the Office of Enrollment Management.

Under the supervision of the Director of Marketing & Communications, the Assistant Director of Communications will be responsible for:

  • Collaborating with the Director to determine communications strategy for the Undergraduate Admissions Office

  • Maintaining content calendars for all tactical communications

  • Creating, reviewing, and otherwise managing content for related to admissions, including:

    • Letters and other print pieces

    • Email copy

    • Social media messaging

    • Web content

  • Reviewing communications sent to prospective students from University partners, including Commonwealth campuses, academic colleges, and other administrative units

  • Collaborating with the CRM Team on the development and use of Slate for communications flows

  • Participating in brainstorming and ideation sessions

  • Maintaining University brand and editorial standards

  • Communicating with internal (Penn State) audiences

  • Supervising one or more employees

  • Performing other duties as assigned

This position has the potential to be performed fully remote or as a hybrid of remote and on-site work at Penn State University Park.

Education and experience:

This position typically requires a Bachelor's degree o r higher plus 8 years of related experience o r an equivalent combination of education and experience .

Qualifications

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including strong editing skills

  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously

  • Ability to distill complex processes and topics into clear, engaging communications and adapt messaging for various audiences

  • Minimum (3) years of relevant communications experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required

  • Supervision experience preferred

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products
