Duties and Responsibilities
Reporting to the Associate Director for New Student Programs, the Assistant Director for Orientation and Student Transitions will provide institutional leadership and support for orientation programs for new students (undergraduate first-year and transfer) and their families. This highly-visible role will coordinate closely with University partners on projects and duties including:
- Plan content/structure and coordinate/facilitate all new student orientation programs for first-year and transfer students and their families
- Recruit, select, train, support, supervise, and evaluate undergraduate orientation leaders, assistants, and interns to facilitate the smooth operation of orientation programs
- Engage in continuous improvement efforts by coordinating evaluation and assessment efforts related to orientation programming and the transfer student experience to ensure orientation programming is coherent with other university and first-year initiatives
- Coordinate strategic pre-orientation communications, maintain orientation-specific website and online platforms, and assist in the creation of digital and print materials to support orientation programming
- Collaborate with campus partners to make data-driven decisions on orientation scheduling, logistics, and program content to aid in students’ successful transition to Loyola
- Under support of Associate Director, represent New Student Programs on University committees, including but not limited to convening and facilitating university-wide Orientation Committee
- Lead transfer student support initiatives, including advising and overseeing transfer student advisory board
- Teach multiple sections of UNIV 101 and UNIV 201 each semester
- In collaboration with the Associate Director for New Student Programs, coordinate the logistics of New Student Convocation
- Participate in Student Academic Services signature programs, events, and activities, including but not limited to: finals week proctoring and Undergraduate Admission open houses.

Minimum Education and/or Work Experience
Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s Degree preferred in higher education or related field and knowledge. Three years’ experience.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree and at least 3 years of related experience in orientation and new student programs; master’s degree preferred
- Experience with orientation programming required
- Experience supervising undergraduate student staff preferred
- Experience teaching a first-year seminar preferred
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, flexibility, and problem solving skills
- Demonstrated ability to effectively collaborate with University partners
- Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate (verbally and in writing) with faculty, staff, students, and parents/families
- Ability to embrace, promote, and articulate the University’s Jesuit Catholic identity
- Positive energy, willingness to take initiative to address areas of need
Certificates/Credentials/Licenses
Bachelor’s degree and at least three years of related experience; master’s degree preferred.
Computer Skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, internet and email applications.
- Experience with university admission CRM software (e.g. Slate) and student success platforms (e.g., EAB Navigate) is a plus.
