Assistant Director, Donelan Office of Community-Based Learning - College of the Holy Cross
Job description
The Assistant Director of the Donelan Office supports the student and community-based programming of the Donelan Office within the J.D. Power Center for Liberal Arts in the World. In conjunction with Donelan Office staff, the Assistant Director maintains CBL community partnerships, advises students in selecting community learning placements and coordinating logistics; plans and facilitates orientation and reflection sessions to enhance student learning; collaborates with other on-campus community engagement programs including SPUD and community service work-study. The Assistant Director works closely with the Director to oversee the CBL Intern Program and assists the Associate Director with planning and facilitation of the annual Non-Profit Careers Conference.
Major Areas of Responsibility
Community Partnerships
- Assist in managing community partner relations, in conjunction with Associate Director and under supervision from Director. This includes communications, attending relevant community partner events, delivering paperwork, understanding pre-service requirements (i.e., CORI forms, volunteer applications) from community partners and helping students to meet those requirements.
- With the Director of the Donelan Office, coordinate CBL placement options for CBL placement-based courses including visits to CBL classes and a CBL orientation at the beginning of each semester.
- Conduct site visits of community partners for placement-based partners.
- Collaborate with other community engagement programs including SPUD and community service work-study.
Student Support & Advising
- Advise CBL placement-based students in selecting community partners.
- Selection and leadership of CBL Interns and J.D. Power Center Ambassadors with assistance from the Director of Donelan Office (CBL Interns) and Assistant Director of JDPC (JDPC Ambassadors)
- With J.D. Power Center and Donelan Office colleagues, develop and implement student programming around reflection, vocational discernment, leadership development for all J.D. Power Center students, including Power Talks, CBL Reflection, Non-Profit Careers Conference, possible retreats or reflection days at the Contemplative Center; focus on Ignatian spirituality where possible in these opportunities.
- Offer advising support to students applying for Marshall and Ignite Funds
Administrative Duties
- Collaborate with the Assistant Director of the J.D. Power Center on Communications (Social Media, Newsletter, blog); consult Associate Director and Director to update website, social media campaigns, and community outreach at HC and in Worcester
- Support the Assistant Director of the J.D. Power Center with transportation logistics for placement-based students
- Assist Director with assessment for placement-based courses and CBL Intern Program
- Serve on the Community Engagement Committee
- Other duties as assigned; must be able to work occasional evenings and weekends
Reports to the Director of the Donelan Office of Community-Based Learning
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree
- Experience with community-based learning, service-learning, or community engagement as an undergraduate or during a post-graduate year of service
- Understanding of and commitment to the mission of Jesuit higher education and the role of community-based learning in contributing to that mission
- Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- An ability to remain organized and follow through with details while balancing multiple projects
- Sound judgment and problem-solving skills
- A sense of curiosity and interest in learning about a wide variety of academic disciplines and social service agencies
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
- Understanding and valuing diversity while fostering an inclusive and supportive environment.
- Competence with Microsoft Office and Google Apps (Gmail, Google Drive, Google Sites); a willingness to learn other software and technology as needed
