Assistant Construction Supervisor

JOB SUMMARY:
This position is intended to prepare field employees for the role of Construction Supervisor. It is a support role and an opportunity to obtain the skills and knowledge necessary to supervise construction projects. The ability to work effectively with a diverse group of individuals is required as you may be helping to lead crews of various ages and skill sets. As an assistant, you will help oversee daily activities in addition to self-performing tasks based on the needs of the project.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Assist on construction site and with all daily operations including but not limited to safety, scheduling, managing subcontractors, coordination and quality of construction
- Assist in maintaining accurate project schedule while working with project team to ensure timely project execution
- Ensure Chapman’s programs related to quality, project standards, and sustainable construction
- Facilitate quality results while providing the highest level of customer service
- Represent Chapman Construction with owners, architects, vendors and subcontracts in a professional and courteous manor
- Create and maintain established relationships with project team through effective communication and problem-solving skills
- Adheres to and enforces Chapman safety procedures and policies
- Estimate height, width, length and other proportions
- Understand blueprints or instruction from supervisors
- Use levels, rules, framing squares and laser equipment to ensure dimensional integrity
- Work with materials such as wood, plastic, fiberglass, or drywall
- Utilize hand and power tools
- Join materials with nails, screws, staples, or adhesives
- Install partitions, doors, frames and other interior finishes
- Perform other functions as required
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 2 years construction experience
- Demonstrated efforts towards continued development and growth in the industry, continuing education, coursework and seminars
- Participates in mandatory company-sponsored training programs and monthly meetings
- Possesses a valid driver’s license
- Basic understanding of construction plans and specifications
- Completes an Adult CPR/First Aid Certification within one year of employment
- Completes a 30-hour OSHA training course within one year of employment
- Familiar with personal computers and basic computer programs
WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand and walk. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or and crawl.
- The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up 75 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- While performing the duties of the job, the employee frequently works in precarious places and may be in outside weather conditions, and exposed to the risk of electrical shock, and vibration. The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and is occasionally exposed to dust, paint fumes, odors, mold, wet and/or humid conditions, toxic and caustic chemicals, extreme cold, and extreme heat.
- Occasionally required to sweep floors, pick-up trash, empty barrels and hampers, unload delivery trucks, manually move material, dig holes or trenches and perform select demolition tasks
