FLT Area Construction Manager Job Description and Expectations

Area Construction Managers report to: Regional Construction Manager

Area Construction Manager’s play an active role in nearly every facet of FLT’s business. The ability to

focus on multiple tasks, train and supervise FLT associates, provide high level customer service, maintain

the subcontractor base, and ensure high levels of quality control are critical to success.

Job Duties include, but are not limited to:

 Production

o Inspect and verify various phases of construction as contracted by FLT to ensure proper

installation, subcontractor and employee safety, cleanliness, and schedule viability

o Train and mentor direct reports on construction aspects, scheduling, customer service,

and fiscal responsibility

o Develop and maintain a schedule to ensure jobs are properly staffed to meet FLT’s

customers timelines

o Work within various FLT programs to deliver and develop best practices (IE –

BuilderTrend, Spectrum, etc)

o Ensure jobsite is safe and clean at all times, regardless of customer enforcement

o Maintain a professional and collaborative relationship with FLT employees and

subcontractors

o Ensure staffing is adequate through advance schedule projections

o Understand and implement fiscal responsibility for all aspects of FLT’s business

o Ensure subcontractors are held accountable for warranty and safety obligations while

still maintaining relationships critical to overall FLT success

o Maintain professionalism with all customers and subcontractors at all times

 Staffing

o Work with existing trade base to ensure profitability for all parties involved (FLT, builder,

subcontractor)

o Grow trade base through continuous recruiting

o Seek value in all subcontractors by teaching / training / advising

o Develop, recruit, and train FLT employees and direct reports

 Customer Service

o Maintaining existing customer relationships through continuous dialog with customers

to grow business opportunities

o Provide constant communication and feedback from customer to FLT field staff, and FLT

management team

o Coordinate periodic meetings with FLT field staff and customers to ensure open

communication and understand customer expectations and upcoming schedules

o Provide periodic (quarterly) updates to FLT management regarding forthcoming

schedule, fiscal review, and potential new opportunities

o Establish guidelines for customer and FLT success in all aspect of the business. Being a

problem solver is essential to success

o Work collaboratively with customer and FLT field team and subcontractors to mitigate

customer backcharges.

o Review FLT’s Customer Service schedule weekly and communicate needs and

expectations to the customer and FLT employees, associates, and subcontractors

 Metrics for Success

o Provide the customer high value through efficient scheduling, clear communication,

quality construction, safe, clean jobsites, and timely, professional warranty work

o Lower warranty expense by delivering a high quality, well built end product, and by

documenting deficiencies that could reappear as warranty claims that are not the fault

of FLT

o Ensure jobsites are staffed appropriately to hit customers schedules, and

communicating staffing needs to FLT management prior to staffing shortfalls

o Calls from the customers to upper management at FLT are deemed failures to manage

the project on the FLT Area Managers side

o Maintain existing business at a level that earns FLT the next project to be awarded

o Reduce FLT backcharges

o Make FLT the customers ‘vendor of choice’

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $50,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
