About the Role

The Animal Care Technician provides basic husbandry services and perform tasks involved in the care, maintenance, and welfare of research animals (e.g. mice, rats, canine, non-human primates and swine).

What You'll Do Here

• Responsible for producing high quality clean caging and general Animal Care.
• Reviews, comprehends, and complies with all SOP’s and quality assurance standards pertaining to specific area.
• Monitors daily animal health and welfare while performing health observations.
• Perform animal husbandry duties to maintain the quality and health of research animals, which includes perform cage checks; providing appropriate food and water; perform cage changing and/or cage cleaning as required; record animal health concerns per SOP’s and/or specified protocols.
• Loading and unloading heavy caging into a large rack washer
• Operates equipment and uses supplies according to safety guidelines; performs general housekeeping and adheres to safety procedures.

What You'll Need to Succeed

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred. Equivalent relevant experience considered
• This is an entry level position and previous animal experience would be beneficial
• Basic computer and math skills
• Ability to communicate (verbal and written) in a professional manner
• This is a very physical position in a warm environment
• Position requires the ability to bend, squat, kneel, and stand, for up to 8 hours/day
• Position also requires wearing of PPE (face mask, face shield, goggles, hair net, scrubs, etc. for up to 8 hours a day)
• Be able to regularly push and pull heavy objects and safely move or lift heavy loads (up to 55 pounds)
• All schedules include weekends, holidays and occasional overtime

What We Offer

The pay range estimated for this position is $19.50-$24.37 (per hour rates or annually). Please note that hourly rates/salaries vary within the range based on factors including, but not limited to, prior relevant experience, skills, education, certification, location as well as internal equity and market data.
