Job description
  • The Corrosion Control Technician is responsible for washing/cleaning and lubrication of the aircraft, complying with corrosion inspections, and identifying/removing/treating corrosion, preparing aircraft and components for painting, performing touch-up painting and the performance of scheduled inspections.
  • Required to inspect and correct corrosion intrusion.
  • Performs aircraft corrosion control to include washing, cleaning, corrosion detection, corrosion removal, metal treatment and touch up painting.
  • Assist in the preparation of the aircraft and/or components for complete repaint.
  • Must be familiar with normal operational safety requirements, working on and around aircraft and ground support equipment.
  • Inspect aircraft exterior and interior, including gear and wheel wells for corrosion.
  • Classify and document corrosion intrusion discovered during inspection phase in accordance with NAVAIR and TMS manuals.
  • Treat and repair corrosion as required using chemicals and chemical/abrasive compounds. Perform masking on windows, canopies, plastic, rubber parts and exposed wiring when using chemical paint removers.
  • Lubricate any components or parts in accordance with applicable aircraft maintenance manuals. Use appropriate powered tools in corrosion removal and treatment.
  • Restore paint integrity using airbrush, self-pressurized spray kit or brush and roller.
  • Order parts and materials to be used in corrosion control evolution.
  • Maintain cleanliness of the work center and assigned work area. Responsible for adhering to all applicable Foreign Object Damage (FOD) prevention rules and regulations
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Work Center Supervisor.
Minimum Qualifications;
  • Must have a working knowledge of corrosion theory, conditions leading to corrosion and the procedures utilized to remove and treat corrosion.
  • Possess ability to communicate courteously with military and RA employees.
  • Demonstrate the ability to read, understand and follow written or oral instructions. Be knowledgeable of and follow Department of Defense (DoD), Navy and OSHA safety standards. Possess knowledge of materials and safety instructions.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance and flight-line driver’s license, if required.
  • Must have a valid drivers license.
  • Must have high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous Military Experience must provide Member 4 DD214 with Honorable Discharge
  • Possess a thorough working knowledge of corrosion theory, detection, treatment and prevention. Must have a working knowledge of applicable maintenance/technical manuals, basic tools and special tools. Must be customer oriented.
  • Satisfactory completion of U.S. Navy Corrosion Control School or acceptable substitute, or F.A.A. Airframe License.
  • Within the last five (5) years, must have three (3) years’ experience in aircraft corrosion control. Additionally, must have a minimum of two (2) years general experience in the last five (5) years in their specific aircraft maintenance occupational field.
  • Recent experience (last three years) with F-18 (A-F),EA-18G, E-2C, MH-60 F/S or F-16 A&B aircraft strongly preferred.
  • Must be able to meet any Government / Company licensing / qualification requirements for the position.
  • Licensing, certification requirements:
    • Hazardous Waste Communications Training,
    • FOD and TCP Awareness Trained
    • ISO 9001-2000 Program Awareness
    • Operational Risk Management (ORM) Training
  • Position requires shift-work in addition to scheduled and unscheduled overtime and weekend/holiday work.
  • Ability to walk and stand on level and/or inclined surfaces for extended periods throughout the day.
  • Ability to climb, bend, stoop, squat, crawl, crouch, kneel, lift, carry, balance and reach above shoulder level, push or pull weight up to seventy (70) pounds.
  • Ability to use eye hand coordination and manual dexterity.
  • Must have close vision to include color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Ability to hear at the normal range.
  • Pass all required physicals such as Isocyanate, respirator, etc.
  • Requires the use of respirator.
  • Must be able to work dayshift, night shift, and/or weekend shift as required.
  • Must be qualified in confined space entry
