Main Purpose of Job
POSITION DUTIES
- Investigate allegations of administrative and criminal violations by and against employees and service providers including, but not limited to, collusion, corruption, misappropriation of assets, mismanagement, fraud, waste and abuse of authority, excessive use of force, assaults, child abuse, child neglect, sexual abuse, serious injuries, escapes and AWOLs, any violation of DJS policies and procedures, and other complaints as assigned. Advise the Director of Investigations regarding any pattern of complaints/findings that affects the well-being of the youth in DJS care and custody.
- Investigate and respond to alerts of suspected gang involvement and/or gang membership by DJS youth in an effort to verify and report the youth’s status; investigate alleged gang-related incidents within Department operated facilities and those operated by private vendors licensed by DJS, and the collection of gang-related contraband and gang-related intelligence.
- Examine and monitor the Incident Reporting Database for your assigned facilities to assure that all incidents requiring investigation are addressed by the Investigations Unit according to Department policy.
- Examine and monitor the Safe Measures system for gang-related alerts submitted by DJS community staff to assure that all gang-related information is investigated according to Department policy.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
Experience: Five years of administrative staff or professional work.
Notes:
1. Candidates may substitute 30 college credit hours from an accredited college or university for each year up to four years of the required experience.
2. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and one year of experience in administrative staff or professional work for the required experience.
3. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Master's degree from an accredited college or university for the required experience.
4. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer involving staff work related to the administration of rules, regulations, policy, procedures and processes, or overseeing or coordinating unit operations or functioning as a staff assistant to a higher ranking commissioned officer on a year-for- year basis for the required experience.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- One or more years of experience writing Administrative/Investigative Reports in correlation with workplace policies.
- One or more years of experience investigating gang involvement and/or gang membership in a juvenile or adult facility.
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
SELECTION PROCESS
Applicants who meet the Minimum Qualifications will be placed on the eligible list categorized as QUALIFIED, BETTER QUALIFIED, OR BEST QUALIFIED. Candidates shall be certified to the eligible list for a period of one year.
