The Office of the Secretary, Workers’ Claims Legal Division is searching for an applicant to fill an Administrative Specialist III position. This position provides a variety of professional administrative support in the Workers’ Claims Legal Division within the Education and Labor Cabinet which are unique, controversial, or technical in nature and require extensive original research and analysis.

The preferred candidate for this position will be able to demonstrate the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously, communicate clearly and concisely verbally and in writing and have strong organizational skills.

Job duties:
  • Provide professional support to the Workers’ Claims Legal Division, including assisting the attorney staff in the daily functions of the office, including preparing legal documents and maintaining files and keeping statistics.
  • Assist the attorney staff in complex division matters, including but not limited to enforcement and Special Fund; coordinate with chief Administrative Law Judge staff to schedule hearings.
  • Maintain all records for the legal division.
  • Receive citation files from enforcement, logs information and assign to attorneys within the division.
  • Assist General Counsel/Assistant General Counsel with various complex projects as assigned. Drafts letters or documents on behalf of attorneys, track payment received, document on spreadsheet.
  • Organize and supervise collection work, liens and warning letters for the Office and track the processes. Responsible for CourtNet updating, a statewide processing and filing system.
  • Oversee and supervise the compiling of statistics for the General Counsel’s office for statutory requirements.
  • Manage fiscal, personnel and budgetary matters for the Office and make policy recommendations regarding the same.
  • Performs extensive research of Workers’ Compensation laws and former case details.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Three years of professional, administrative, or business experience.

Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: Additional education will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: Additional administrative, business, research, and/or clerical experience will substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

Incumbents working in this job title primarily perform duties in an office setting.
Probationary Period
This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
