About the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission (IURC):
The Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission is an administrative agency that hears evidence in cases filed before it and makes decisions based on the evidence presented in those cases. An advocate of neither the public nor the utilities, the Commission is required by state statute to make decisions in the public interest to ensure the utilities provide safe and reliable service at just and reasonable rates.

Salary Statement:

The salary for this position traditionally starts at $50,666 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.

The Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission's (IURC) overall mission is to ensure that safe, adequate, efficient, and reliable utility services are provided at just and reasonable rates; that the interests of all stakeholders are effectively evaluated and balanced; and that the well-being of the state, its economy and its citizens are advanced, protected and preserved.

The Pipeline Safety Division’s (PSD) mission is to ensure the safe and reliable operation of Indiana’s pipeline transportation system by enforcement of state and federal pipeline safety regulations. This mission is accomplished largely through inspections, investigations of pipeline accidents, training, outreach programs, and enforcement through compliance actions and monetary sanctions.

The Pipeline Safety Division Administrative Assistant provides administrative and clerical support to the division in which they are assigned including assisting with the efficient and effective use of the various information systems used within the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission. The position plays a central role in helping to maintain, organize, and process information (damage case information, records, and files - both electronic and hard copy) in compliance with established Commission standards and helps to ensure the efficiency and effectiveness of Division operations.

The workplace location for this position is the IURC’s office in Indianapolis with optional remote work under the State’s Flexible Work Arrangements policy after successful onboarding.


A Day in the Life:

Duties and responsibilities of this position include:

  • Ownership of multiple steps in our Utility Plant Protection (UPP) Process, including but not limited to:
    • Communicating with internal and external parties on case information
    • Importing data to create case files
    • Managing the upload process for case files based on responses
    • Ownership over critical mailings
    • Managing multiple spreadsheets and Microsoft word documents
    • Data entry
    • Attendance at the monthly Utility Plant Protection Committee Meetings
  • General administrative and clerical duties and responsibilities (e.g. - answering telephones, processing mail, filing, proofreading reports, making and distributing hard copies of certain documents, etc.)

What You'll Need for Success:

  • Must possess a High School diploma or GED certificate. Some college or technical training in IT would be preferred.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, especially Microsoft Excel
  • Some knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics CRM and SharePoint.
  • Solid verbal and communication skills
  • Self-motivated
  • Extremely organized and time efficient

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:

This role does not provide direct supervision to direct reports; however, supervision may be assigned based on agency needs.
