Provides indirect patient care. Meets the communication needs of the department leadership, staff, medical staff, and customer (internal and external) of the OR. Leads participation of the secretarial staff in performance improvement activities. Participates in and leads the education and training of secretarial staff for all job functions. Maintains regulatory agency requirements, OR policies and procedures and standards.

Per Diem Position

Responsibilities:

  • Follows appropriate lines of communication to effectively resolve difficult staff situations.
  • Responds promptly and courteously to customer (Internal & external) requests.
  • Communicates effectively with internal and external customers with respect of differences in cultures, values, beliefs, and ages.
  • Respects patient/customer privacy and confidentiality.
  • Accepts responsibility and accountability for own actions with appropriate follow through. Fulfills commitments.
  • Consistently presents a positive attitude in working with internal and external customers.
  • Responds appropriately and immediately in emergency situations
  • Maintains a safe and healthy environment for patients, visitors, and/or staff to provide the highest level of physical comfort and minimize risk and injury
  • Completed all Hospital and Department Specific Mandatory requirements in the prior calendar year.
  • Applies principles of National Patient Safety Goals and integrates them into clinical practice where applicable.
  • Works as a liaison between supply technician and materials coordinator to ensure that all ordering, inventory, and billing are up-to-date.
  • Places all orders on equipment and instrumentation – as needed for replacements or additional items
  • Works with Clinical leaders to ensure all special orders are complete and works with Representatives to have implants requested by physicians for all cases.
  • Inventories all areas of the OR and orders any necessary supplies including positioning equipment.
  • Assists the O.R. with all Purchase orders and Meditech issues
  • Collaborates with leadership to address any recalls and removes any items off shelf and send to Materials Management.
  • Responsible for maintaining implant logs
  • Works collaboratively with Blood Bank on grafts and tissues for maintaining inventory, etc... and maintains inventory on ambient temperature items kept up in the O.R.
  • Promotes learning for colleagues and self, functions as a preceptor and attends professional development programs.
  • Covers for O.R. Billing/Materials Coord. and the O.R. Supply Tech. when either he/she are out
  • Assists with all OR repairs and OR repair logbook
  • Assists with capital equipment requisitions with Clinical Leaders and submits all appropriate paperwork, etc.
  • Identifies ethical issues and reports them to the Manager
  • Compose requisitions as needed
  • Monitors Temperatures in OR and all refrigerators and maintains accurate documentation of all temps and reports any variation of temperatures to charge nurse
  • Is a resource person for staff
  • Assists with OR repairs. This process includes completion of paperwork; send to Materials Management; makes arrangement for a loaner is necessary
  • Reconciliation of charge entries
  • Works with Biomedical for repair of any electrical equipment
  • Is responsible for rotating X-Ray badges monthly
  • Works collaboratively with Service Leaders to update and outdate specialty carts.
  • Works with SDC, PACU and OR to close any cases that have missing information necessary to do billing
  • Works with SPD and is the main contact person for reprocessing.
  • Appropriately prioritizes responsibilities (e.g. seeks assistance as needed from appropriate resources as necessary, recognizes need for emergency intervention, etc.).
  • Collaborates with the Supply Team, Finance, and OR Leadership to ensure that supply charging, maintaining PO’s, and OR charts are closed in a timely manner

Qualifications:

  • High School Graduate or equivalent
  • Previous medical secretary experience preferred
  • Excellent communication, organizational and customer service skills required.
  • Medical terminology preferred.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office products including, Excel, Word and PowerPoint
