How You'll Make a Difference

The Actuarial Analyst is responsible for conducing analysis to support the Company's business. Roles and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, pulling data to satisfy internal requests, reporting on daily open enrollment and special enrollment metrics, estimating IBNR, modeling plan value using the Federal AV calculator, updating financial reports, creating routine regulatory reports, and building models from scratch. Other responsibilities include working with internal stakeholders to provide reports, including clinical, member services, provider, and medical and pharmacy steering committees.

Utilize Your Skills By:

  • Developing pricing methodologies and assumptions for individual and small group products
  • Performing extensive experience analysis to identify key drives of health care cost trends
  • Performing provider contract evaluation and impact on pricing
  • Calculating reserves for IBNR
  • Aiding other actuaries in the risk adjustment process
  • Working with other departments to complete Qualified Health Plan filings and ensure compliance with federal requirements
  • Preparing work for external consultants
  • Preparing standard internal reports, ad hoc internal reports and external reports required by outside entities (i.e. OCI, CMS, etc.)
  • Any other duties as assigned.

What You'll Need to Bring:

  • Bachelor's degree in actuarial science, mathematics, or a related field is required.
  • Two actuarial exams
  • Two or more years of experience in a combination of actuarial pricing, reserving, forecasting, financial forecasting, healthcare data analysis and healthcare pricing required.
  • Maintain confidentiality and comply with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
  • Ability to work independently and be self-directed in completion of responsibilities.
  • Attendance according to Company standards.
  • Adheres to Company policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of Excel and basic proficiency in SQL.

General Requirements:

  • Demonstrated adaptability and flexibility to new ideas and approaches.
  • Knowledge of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), especially health plan pricing.
  • Ability to stay organized and synthesize information.
  • Ability to interpret, synthesize and analyze financial information and reports, metrics and other data, arrive at supportable conclusions and recommendations and present to all levels of the organization, formally and informally, at the appropriate level of the audience.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, as well as excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Preferred understanding of large group and small group underwriting.
