Job Summary
** The Minnesota Department of Transportation does not sponsor applicants for work visas or Optional Practical Training Extensions for STEM Students. Individuals must be legally authorized to work in the US at the start of employment.
This position is located at Central Office in St. Paul. This position will have the option to telework; the employee will be required to complete a telework agreement.
The position will provide statewide active transportation planning including organizing and coordinating the involvement of the public, interest groups, and other state, regional and local agencies. The position is responsible for implementation of active transportation plans upon completion of each update; to provide professional planning technical expertise and analysis related to other major planning efforts including the Active Transportation Program. Additionally, the position will coordinate integration of active transportation within MnDOT planning, design, construction, maintenance, and operations processes.
Periodic (10%) travel within Minnesota is required to meet with stakeholders. There are additional opportunities for local, regional, and national travel to conferences and/or meetings.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Three years of advanced professional transportation planning experience that demonstrates the following:
- Experience with planning principles, methods, and techniques sufficient to develop major statewide plans.
- Experience with interrelationships and interdependencies among active transportation, land use, community and economic development, sustainability, livability, public health, and other areas related to planning.
- Knowledge of state and federal program laws, policies, and regulations related to statewide and metropolitan planning.
- Experience leading planning studies or complex planning processes.
- Experience with statistics and spreadsheets to analyze and display trends and conditions.
- Experience working with internal and external partners and leading stakeholder groups.
A Bachelor's or Master's degree in planning, geography, urban studies, sociology, political science substitutes for six months of advanced professional experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree or graduate certificate in urban planning, public policy, transportation or related field.
- Professional planning or policy experience working in government at the metropolitan or state level.
