Position Description:
We are seeking an enthusiastic, energetic, and creative educator to teach 4th grade full time. Candidates must be willing and eager to work with a wide range of learners, all of whom are admitted to the school through a selective admissions process.
Who We’re Looking for:
The connection and relationship between the teacher and student are the keystones of the classroom experience at St. Stephen’s Episcopal School. Well equipped classrooms, thoughtfully planned courses of study, and effective guidance programs are very important ingredients, but the success of the school is dependent upon the enthusiasm and dedication of the teaching staff. Student-centered teachers are the school’s greatest assets!
Qualifications/Requirements:
At least a Bachelor of Arts degree in education or applicable area of study with at least three (3) years of elementary classroom lead teaching experience.

The curriculum in 4th Grade offers integration of novel-based literature/social studies, math/science, and geography/demographics (focusing on American indigenous people’s history). Students are taught self responsibility and are also given the opportunity to work with others on group projects. Daily lessons involve direct instruction and small group activities. Critical thinking and problem solving skills are practiced through hands-on, project based learning. Both direct instruction and student led activities reinforce subject specific curriculum benchmarks throughout the academic year.
- Follow a course of study developed by teachers in partnership with the administration.
- Develop lessons that account for the diverse student learning modalities within a classroom, utilizing an array of teaching and assessment tools and resources.
- Maintain a safe and engaging classroom environment, alive with student art and project displays.
- Create a varied student assessment system, tracking yearlong achievement and improvement.
- Manage the class by showing respect for students and by enabling students to maintain responsibility for their learning.
- Communicate frequently and with clarity to parents/guardians via conferences, phone calls, texts, emails, and Class Dojo.
- Collaborate with colleagues to build a positive and productive school culture for both students and staff.
- Create a strong, supportive learning environment that prioritizes diversity, equity, inclusion, justice and belonging.
- Actively and continuously develop your teaching practice through pursuit of professional development opportunities and assumption of leadership roles.
