Yu Ming Charter School is a non-profit, tuition-free network of public schools located in Oakland and San Leandro and open to all residents of California. As a leader in Mandarin Immersion education, our mission is to nurture our inclusive and diverse community to become empowered, engaged, and outstanding global citizens. We currently serve 766 students across three campuses, and continue to grow our enrollment each year. RESPONSIBILITIES

Under general supervision of the Extended Care Site Supervisor, performs a variety of duties related to supporting K-2 students at our Lower School After Care Program or Grades 3-8 students at our Upper School After Care Program

• Develop age appropriate educational activities and lessons designed to teach youth new skills while helping youth find their passions and interests.
• Role model for youth Yu Ming’s Core Values
• Promote a positive work environment and relationships with team members and school.
• Maintain positive relationships with students, families and school.
• Create opportunities for youth to experience opportunities to learn how to form close, durable human relationships with peers that support and reinforce healthy behaviors.
• Be a role model for youth. Make an impact with your actions as well as your words. Guide them towards behaviors that help them to thrive, and away from those that are risky.

QUALIFICATION

Required

• High School degree

Preferred

• Associate of Arts or Science (AA or AS) degree preferred
• At least 1-2 years prior experience working with youth and/or teens
• Certified in CPR and First Aid, or be certified within 30 days of hire
• Demonstrated awareness of, sensitivity to, and competence in working with families from various culturally and socioeconomically diverse backgrounds.
• Superb interpersonal skills; ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of students, colleagues and families
• Flexibility and adaptability to change; ability to work in a dynamic, creative and start-up learning environment
• Driven adult learner dedicated to his or her own professional growth, including learning new and innovative teaching practices
• Maturity, humility, strong work ethic, sense of humor, and a solutions-oriented attitude

COMPENSATION

Hourly rate commensurate with experience, within the range of $18-21/hour.

TIME COMMITMENT

Afternoon work schedule with ~20-25 hours/week. Monday-Thursday 2:45 to 6pm. Friday 12:45 to 6pm. Hours may vary slightly by site.
